Malaysian Company Complete Largest Overseas Greenfield Solar Project

DHAKA, 26 April 2021: Malaysian solar company, Ditrolic Solar Group today announced the completion and successful commercial operation of its 73.1MW Mymensingh, Bangladesh solar power plant, a largest greenfield solar developed by a Malaysian solar company abroad.
 
The US$90mil (RM370mil) project, secured through a 20 years Power Purchase Agreement with the Bangladesh Power Development Board (“BPDB”) has achieved Commercial Operation status on 4th November 2020 and is supplying power through the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (“PGCB”).
 
The solar power plant is currently the largest in the country and is especially important to the country as Bangladesh is one of the most vulnerable country to climate change effects. Annually, the power plant is expected to generate approximately 100,000MWh of clean electricity to the grid and offsetting more than 80,000 tonnes of carbon emission into the atmosphere. This amount is equivalent to electricity consumed by 50,000 average household in the country.
 
Chief Executive Officer of Ditrolic Solar Group, Tham Chee Aun said the project has to overcome many challenges and is now able to contribute positively to combat the climate change.
 
“To develop a project of this scale, we have to work very closely with the stakeholders which include the local communities and authorities especially to address the Environmental and Social issues that arised during the development and construction period. This project would not be possible without the cooperation and commitment of the local partners and our staff who have contributed immensely over the past 5 years. Today we are extremely proud to demonstrate that Malaysian company and team are able to complete a project of this scale and complexities in a foreign country. Hopefully, this will path the way for more Malaysian solar companies to look outward and bring their expertise to capture a larger market out there.”
