Ditrolic Solar, a Malaysian solar project developer and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company, has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement for 50MW of utility-scale solar farm in Dhaka with the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).
The board is under the power division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Government of Bangladesh through its associate company, HDFC Sinpower Ltd.
This 50MW project provides a significant milestone for Ditrolic Solar Group, with it being the largest solar project undertaken by any Malaysian company.
Power from the Mymensingh solar project, located in Gouripur sub-district, Bangladesh, will supply BPDB with 50 MWac of clean solar electricity, which is sufficient to power one-third of the surrounding area demand.
Construction of the project is expected to begin in 2017 and the project will begin providing power to BPDB by early 2018.
The estimated US$80mil (RM335.6mil) solar project was developed by Ditrolic Solar in partnership with a local company, IFDC Solar Power (BD) Ltd, and SGX-listed SHS Holdings Ltd.
Ditrolic Solar’s chief executive officer, who is also the managing director for HDFC Sinpower Ltd, Tham Chee Aun shared: “This project marks a big milestone for Ditrolic Solar’s growth in the solar industry.
“We have grown from installing our first, two pieces solar panel project seven years ago to a 50MW solar project covering more than 150 acres of land now.
“We’re especially proud that we are a homegrown company that has made a mark internationally using our experiences gained from Malaysia.”
Ditrolic Solar Group is a leading solar photovoltaic company in Malaysia. It is a downstream solar company where it is involved in project development, design and construction and independent power production. It serves customers in three business segments: small power solution, commercial power solution and power plant solution.
Ditrolic Solar has undertaken projects in Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines and Bangladesh. Now, the other major solar project under construction is Singapore Changi Airport buildings, which is slated for completion in December this year.
Present at the signing ceremony were Bangladesh Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Power Division secretary Monowar Islam, Bangladesh Minister of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, BPDB chairman Khaled Mahmood and HDFC Sinpower Ltd chairman Henry Ng.
