Ditrolic Energy Sets Target to Achieve Net-Zero

Ditrolic Energy Sets Target to Achieve Net-Zero

In August 2021, the United Nation published a landmark climate change report that describe the current situation of global climate is a “code red for humanity”. This report contains no surprises but reaffirm what we knew all along, that the world is in an emergency. Years of uncontrolled greenhouse gases emission has polluted the earth and causes significant global temperature warming which affect weather pattern, lives and livehood around the world.

The time window for the world to act is very small but is still open. If the world is able to achieve a deep cut in emission of greenhouse gases, the rise in global temperature could be stabilised and the damages could be contained.

At Ditrolic Energy, we believe businesses could play a key role in acting and leading by example. That’s why we are making a science-based commitment to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 or earlier. In Sept 2021, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validated our targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% in absolute terms from 2018 levels by 2030 in line with a 1.5 degree scenario.

With this validation, Ditrolic Energy is the first Electric Utilities and Independent Power Producers in Malaysia to have set a science-based target, positioning us as leaders in the low-carbon transition alongside global energy utilities such as E.ON SE, EDF Group, Siemens Gamesa, Adani and Engie.

This commitment is aligned to SBTi’s highest ambition level and to achieve this, we are commited to strengthen our company effort to decarbonise our scope 1 (direct emission), scope 2 (indirect emission - electricity) and scope 3 (indirect emission – others) emissions from our business activities. Operationally in terms of scope 2, Ditrolic Energy is already a net zero company with renewable energy powering our various workplaces which generate more clean electricity than we consume.

Due to Ditrolic Energy’s nature of business, more importantly, we are also in a position to make a significant contribution to other businesses’ emission cut as well. With a current presence in over 7 countries in the Asia Pacific and a network of regional and global clients, we have a huge opportunity to support our clients’ effort to transition to net zero electricity. We are committed to influence and support more businesses to join this movement to make a net zero future a reality for all.
